Emerging Technology #3 My Podcast
I listen to podcasts all the time, mostly about sports, and usually enjoy them. I had never even dreamed about ever doing one myself before this assignment. Although I thought it was challenging, I'm glad now that I have at least minimal knowledge of how to create a podcast if I ever needed to. I used garage band and sent my podcast through PodOmatic (which I've included in my top sites). I chose to pick the winners for week 10 in the NFL (just click the heading below to hear it). I can see now that a podcast can be a very useful tool in communicating and sharing ideas or thoughts with other people. I've never seen a podcast used in the classroom before, but I could think of a few ideas where one might be resourceful. I'm not sure if I would ever use one as a teacher, but with all these emerging technologies popping up all around us I may have to at some point! I hope you guys enjoy my podcast and I'll talk to you later.

Exploring RSS
I've heard of this RSS thing for awhile, but didn't really know any information about it at all. I'm really glad I got to explore this and I'm certain it will be useful in the future. It's so convenient to have all these sites in one place and not have to browse the internet for hours or rack your brain trying to remember a web site. I think all my feeds and websites have really valuable and useful information. Once you watch the tutorial on RSS, it was pretty easy to set up and add feeds via Google Reader. I attempted to do it through Blogger at first, but couldn't get it to work. If anyone knows how to put your reader page on your blog please let me know!

My Delicious
I've posted my delicious account link right above my favorite sites. I found this tool very easy to use and think it will be very useful in the future. I never knew this site existed and I'm very happy to have explored it. It's so convenient to go directly to your page and have all your favorite sites right there. Every little tool that helps you get through college is one I'm tryin to have!

Emerging Technology #2 Twitter
The second emerging technology I chose to explore is Twitter. This communication tool has stormed on to the scene in really just the last year or so. Created in 2006, Twitter enables you to post short messages (tweets), limited to 140 characters or less. These messages can be about anything you want. Unlike Facebook, you “follow” people on Twitter. Many celebrities in entertainment, sports, politics, and just about anything else you can think of have Twitter accounts. Start by logging on at www.twitter.com (included in my favorite sites ) and create an account. Then simply choose who you would like to follow and those individuals or groups will show on your feed. You can add a photo of yourself, personal information, ect. It’s very easy to set up and fun to see what your favorite celebrities or friends are up to. I just recently made my account and now I’m addicted. So join this new communication revolution that is Twitter and see what all the fuss is about!

Emerging Technology #1 Photo Share
The first emerging technology I chose to explore is Photovisi, a photo-sharing site located at http://www.photovisi.com (I've posted a link in my favorite sites). Unlike most sites and services that provide picture sharing on the web, Photovisi lets you create different types of collages to share. I had used other Internet photo services in the past, but never Photovisi. I found it to be fun and very easy to use. When you first visit the site, you chose a collage style from a variety of choices. After that, you simply choose your pictures from your computer or a webcam and it puts them on the collage for you. After all the pictures are on, you can move them and/or size them differently if you don’t like the way it looks. Then hit download, type in your email, and you’re done. Afterwards, you can send your collage to Facebook, My Space, and anywhere else you want too. Very easy! I didn’t have any problems at all with this and I’m glad I explored it. As a teacher, I think that Photovisi could be used in the classroom as a fun activity. Each child could bring a picture of themselves into class and the teacher could make a collage of all of them. This would be a visual aid of one of the many uses of computers. This would also allow them to see pictures of their fellow students. So take a look at all the cool options Photovisi has and create your own unique collage!

Welcome to my blog!
Welcome all to my blog! My name is Dustin Rushing and this is the first blog I have ever created. I thought it was pretty simple and fun to put this together and I look forward to exploring new ways to use it. There are a few things I could use help with however. First, I can't figure out how to put a song on here, from Itunes or wherever. Second, is it possible to make pictures smaller? I don't really have any good tips for you. I thought it was interesting to go through all the gadgets offered so make sure you do that. You may find some cool ones that you'll want to post on your blog I'm sure by the end of the semester we'll all be blog experts. Anyways, thanks for visiting!
